Flu Fighters to Keep You Well this Winter!

We are all exposed to viruses and bacteria everyday, especially at this time of year. However, we don't always get sick. Some of us fall ill more than others. These differences in susceptibility are due to the strength of our immune system.

Factors such as poor diet, chronic stress, lack of sleep and spinal irritations all contribute to a depleted immune system.

Simple tips to fight the flu.

chiropractor brisbane back pain1. Eat a diet rich in colourful fruits and vegetables and ensure sufficient lean protein, such as fish and chicken. These foods have good levels of immune protecting nutrients.

2. Avoid simple sugars, white flour products (bread, pasta and biscuits) and excess alcohol as these foods tend to deplete your immune system.

3. Minimise stress at work and home. Keeping your nervous system in good working order helps your brain to tell your body what to do. Having a chiropractic check-up can help.

4. Ensure adequate sleep. The body and immune system regenerate overnight to maintain optimal function.

5. Consult a naturopath as soon as possible for proven herbal and nutritional immune support.

Drink this tea during a cold or flu. It is supportive to the immune system, very warming and can ease a sore throat and cough.

Method
Bring 1 litre of water to the boil and add:
1 tbsp of honey
2 tsp of fresh grated ginger
1 lemon sliced (with skin on)
1 cinnamon stick or ½ a tsp of
cinnamon powder
6 cloves
1 clove of garlic
¼ teaspoon of fresh chopped chilli
Boil for 1-2 minutes. Cool slightly and drink frequently throughout the day.
