5 Tips to a Flatter Tummy
Have you been exercising those belly muscles and you're wondering why you're still bloated? Losing those last centimetres might be as easy as 1, 2, 3.4, 5.
Abdominal bloating and distension generally occurs after eating, however, the problem isn't always what you are eating, but rather the way you are eating it. Here are a few easy tips from Wellness One's Naturopath.
1. Chew Your Food Properly: As we chew, our body produces acid that helps your stomach to break down the nutrients in food more effectively. Chewing your food at least 30 times per mouthful will help you to draw more nutrients from each meal.
2. Drink Before or After Your Meals: Water, wine or soft-drink will work to dilute your stomach acid and slow digestive enzymes from working. This reduces the amount of nutrients you absorb from your food.
3. Avoid Refined Carbohydrates: Choosing the wrong types of carbohydrates can be the cause of many digestive discomforts. Refined foods such as white rice, packaged foods, chips, white bread and even rice crackers can increase gut reactivity, flare up intolerances and elevate blood sugar. Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, lentils and chickpeas sustain your energy levels and prevent abdominal bloating and weight gain by balancing blood sugars.
4. Avoid Known Food Intolerances: If you know a certain food reacts with you, avoid it. Simple if you can figure out exactly which food this is. This task may not be as daunting as it seems with a little help from your Wellness One Naturopath.
5. The Right Type of Fibre: Fruits and vegetables contain important amounts of fibre to keep your bowels healthy and happy. Lightly steaming vegetables will help your body to absorb their rich nutrients.
Using theses simple tips can help you to feel good. and look great!
