Ways to Beat Neck Pain
When things go wrong in your neck, the pain or stiffness can be so mild that it is merely annoying. Or it can be so severe that it is incapacitating.
Here are 5 easy steps to beat neck pain:
1. Check your Posture.
The way that you position your head and neck is important. Be careful while working, watching TV, reading a book, talking on the phone or using a computer. Ask for a Posture Check next time you're visiting Wellness One- it may be just what you need.
2.Ice or Heat- which is best?
In the first 48 hours of any neck injury, an ice pack is recommended for the inflammation. Make sure it is wrapped in a towel and is placed on the sore part of the neck for no more than 15 minutes.
After 48 hours, a heat pack is recommended and can be used for 20 minutes a few times a day. This will help the muscles to relax and relieve some of the neck pain.
3. A good pillow can make a big difference.
If you are waking up throughout the night or in the morning with a stiff neck, it may actually be your pillow that's the problem and not your neck! Make sure that your pillow is the right height and type for your neck- our trained team can easily show you how to check yours.
4. Will a muscle relaxant help?
In some very painful cases of neck pain, natural muscle relaxants and supplements such as magnesium and glucosamine can help with the pain of spasm and inflammation. Please ask which ones would be best for you.
5. Get help sooner than later..
